The Olivia Act

Some of you may have heard about The Olivia Act… “The Olivia Act named after one of the children killed in Newtown, was started by a photographer who wishes to be anonymous. Olivia’s family had family pictures taken by a professional photographer just a short time before she was killed. Those pictures are precious and now priceless to them. Upon hearing this, this photographer was moved to give away a 30 minute family photo shoot and has challenged other photographers to do the same. We go about our daily lives and sometimes we don’t take the time or have the resources to have family photos taken…”

If you read the “about” section on my blog it directs you to this post that explains what I love about photography and why I feel this job is so important. After reading about The Olivia Act I knew I had to take part. It is a perfect example of why I have followed my dream of becoming a professional photographer. I will be participating in this act by giving away a hour long session to a family in need. Along with the session, the family will receive a DVD of all edited images. However, I need YOUR HELP. I would like you to nominate a family that you feel is deserving. Please email a brief paragraph about the family to Katie@katiekettphotography.com with the subject “The Olivia Act.” The family must be in the city of Chicago or surrounding suburbs. All submissions are due January 4th and the winner will be notified on January 11th. The chosen family will be emailed privately as will the person that nominated them. Thank you for your help!!!!

salle huber - I think I would like to nominate a young woman that I so admire. She is a manager at the Hinsdale Humane Society, a single mom but also a loving, supportive mom of an autistic child. So she has amazing challenges but does the best she can for the animals and for her precious daughter.

Her name is Samantha and her daughter is Anna. They are always posting “selfies” of the two of them together. They are both beautiful, but her daughter is “other worldly” in her beauty for the camera. I will write you back with her last name, but you can find her at the Hinsdale Humane Society.

Thanks katie!
